Biography

Francisco Garcia-Fullana was born in Palma de Mallorca (Spain) in 1990. In 2006, he won the National Prize of Violin Pablo Sarasate. He performed his first recital when he was eight and when he was nine years old, he performed with theBalearic Islands Symphony Orchestra. Being fifteen, Francisco made his debut at the National Auditory of Music in Madrid performing on the  Pablo de Sarasate's Stradivarius. In May 2007 he gave his first recital in New York.  In October 2008 he  played Mendelssohn Concert in The Auditorium of the BMW Welt in Munich under Sir Colin Davis.   


He currently studies in New York with professor Masao Kawasaki at The Juilliard School, who has also been his professor at the Aspen Music Festival and School  (2005-08). He began his violin studies with Mr. Bernat Pomar, in Mallorca, when he was four years old, and afterwards, since 1999,  with Mr. Manuel Guillén in Madrid. In June 2006, he finished his Bachelor Degree at the Royal Superior Conservatory of Music in Madrid, obtaining “A with honors (100%)”, agreed by all the members of the jury.   
 
 

He has performed as a soloist with the Spanish Radio Television Symphony OrchestraBalearic Islands Symphony Orchestrathe Principality of Asturias Symphonic Orchestrathe Pablo Sarasate Symphony Orchestra, the Carl Maria Von-Weber Orchestra, the RCSMM Orchestra and the Junge Münchner Philharmonie, under conductors such as Sir Colin DavisJustin BrownSalvador BrotonsAdrian Leaper, Philippe  Bender, Alondra de la Parra,  Xavier Puig, Joaquín Valdeón, Jurgen Becker, Antonio Moya, Rafael Nadal, and Volker Dietzsch. He has played recitals and concerts in different halls in Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Portugal and USA.  
 

He has attended courses and masterclasses with Manuel GuillénVartan ManoogianMasao Kawasaki, Kathleen Winkler  Lorand  FényvesNicolas Chumachenco, Mauricio Fuks, Yossi ZivoniGyörgy Pauk, and Cho-Liang-Lin in Spain, Switzerland, Aspen (Aspen Music Festival and School) and Santa Barbara (Music Academy of the West). In July 2003, and being only 12 years old, he was number one in the Undergraduate Violin Auditions at the Royal Superior Conservatory of Music in Madrid.   
 

On April 16th 2006, he played for the Spanish Royal Family in the Cathedral of Palma de Mallorca, as well as in April 2003, 2004 and 2005.  In March 2004, he performed Bach’s E Major Concerto, in front of an audience of about 3000 people at the Kreuzkirche, Dresden (Germany). In October 2003, he shared a concert with the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra in the Auditorium of Palma de Mallorca and recorded in 2002 and 2006 for the Spanish Television program “El Conciertazo” hosted by Fernando Argenta. In October 2002 he played in a live broadcast of the classical music radio program “Clásicos Populares” (National Spanish Radio) and was invited to perform as soloist with Pablo Sarasate’s Orchestra, in the concert that honored the great Spanish violinist Eduardo Hernández Asiaín, who is a specialist on Sarasate’s pieces. Since 2003 he has played every year as an invited soloist for the Christmas and Easter concerts in the Cathedral of Palma de Mallorca (Spain).   
 

In March 2006, he won the 2006 Soloist Competition for the Royal Superior Conservatory of Music in Madrid and in September of that same year he won the National prize of Violin “Pablo Sarasate”. In January 2004, he won the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe (YMFE) string instruments competition in Spain and also won first prize in the II International Violin Competition (may 2004), first  violin prize  in the “Julio Cardona” International Competition, for up to 18 years old, in Portugal (April 2003). There, he also won the prize for the best interpretation of a Portuguese piece. He won first prize in the “Comarca del Condado” V Competition, (Huelva) May 2003, “Ciudad de Móstoles” prize in the “National Competition of Real Musical-Ciudad de Móstoles” (June 2002), “Ciutat de Xátiva” VI Competition first prize in January 2002, “Sóller” first prize at the “Miquel Ballester i Serra” VII competition (September 2000), first prize at the “Joaquín Maya” Competition, Pamplona (December 1999). He has premiered pieces of music by composers such as Bernardo Pomar and Bartolomé Poquet. He has played as soloist with the Balearic Islands Symphonic Orchestra, Spanish Radio Television Orchestra, Pablo Sarasate’s Orchestra, Asturias Principate Symphonic Orchestra and with the Carl-Maria-Von-Weber Orchestra, in Sajonia (Germany). In December 2005, after winning a competition, he performed as soloist with the Royal Superior Conservatory of Music Symphonic Orchestra in Madrid.  
 

As a violinist of the Stiftung Lyra Foundation he was selected to participate in the 2004 International Margess Gala Concert in Switzerland, accompanied by the English pianist Charles Owen, and in 2008 he played as soloist Mendelssohn Concert in the BMW Welt Auditorium in Munich, under Sir Colin Davis.   
 

He played for the concert that was given in honor of the composer, Antón García Abril from the Comunidad de Madrid. In November 2004, he was invited as violinist for the Yamaha Meeting celebrated in Mondariz. On the 10th of June 2005, he performed a recital in the Spanish Ambassador’s Official Residence in Washington D.C. In the summer, from 2006 to 2008,he studied  at the Aspen Music Festival and School (Colorado), with professor Masao Kawasaki, and in summer 2009  at Music Academy of the West with Kathleen Winkler . He has played with the Aspen Chamber Symphony, directed by David Zinman, James Conlon and Sir Neville Marriner, among others.  
 

On the 3rd of October 2005, he obtained great success performing Paganini First Violin Concerto, with the Balearic Islands Symphonic Orchestra in the Auditorium of Palma de Mallorca. On the 28th of April 2006, he performed a recital in the National Auditory of Madrid with Pablo de Sarasate’s Stradivarius. The 21th December  2006 he performed at the National Auditory of Music in Madrid (Spain) with de Radio Spanish Television Orchestra. This concert was broadcasted live by Spanish National Television (TVE).  
 

Prize María Paula Alonso de Ruiz Martínez. Prize Miguel Ángel Colmenero 2007. For his trajectory as violin student and soloist the Consell of Mallorca awarded him Prize Jaume II of the Arts, in September of 2006.  
 

He made his debut in New York last May 3rd  2007 in a recital at the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute. On December 12th , 2007 he performed  on From the Top, the classical music radio show hosted by Christopher O'riley for NPR.   
 

On October 2008  he played Mendelssohn Concert in The Auditorium of the BMW Welt in Munich with conductor Sir Colin Davis. On June 2009 he performed a recital for the Washington Performing Arts Society in Washington. On September 2009 he played Mendelssohn Violin Concertp with the Spanish Radio Television Orchestra in Teatro Monumental (Madrid). This concert was  broadcasted by TVE and RNE.  
 

Francisco plays the violin "Ex Posselt", a violin Pressenda" 1844, from the Rare Instruments Collection of The Juilliard School of Music.

 
Currently he continues his studies at The Juilliard School of Music in New York, combining his studies with participation in different concerts and recitals.
